What we Believe
Biblically Based. Christ-Centered.
At Calvary Chapel of the White Mountains, we seek to know Jesus Christ and make Him known. Our beliefs are rooted in the inspired, inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God and centered upon the person and work of Jesus Christ.
We are evangelical Christians who affirm the historic truths of the Christian faith and the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the final authority in every area it addresses for each individual Christian and for the Church collectively.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:21; John 10:35
The Triune God
We believe there is one God who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All things were created by Him and for Him.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:21–22; Matthew 28:19; Colossians 1:16
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ has eternally existed as God the Son, the second Person of the Trinity. Without ceasing to be God, He became fully human, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He lived a completely sinless life, died on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, and was bodily raised from the dead on the third day. He ascended into heaven and is exalted at the right hand of the Father.
We believe He will personally, bodily, and visibly return to receive His Church unto Himself and will ultimately return to earth in power and glory, defeat His enemies, and reign as King.
John 1:1, 14; Matthew 1:18–25; John 8:58; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11; John 14:1–3; Revelation 19:11–16
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
He regenerates, indwells, and seals believers in Jesus Christ. He is our Counselor and Teacher, guiding us into truth and empowering us to live as witnesses for Christ.
John 14:16–17, 26; John 16:7–13; Titus 3:5–6; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20; Ephesians 1:13–14; Acts 1:8
Humanity
We believe God created human beings, male and female, in His own image, equal in value, dignity, and worth.
Through humanity's disobedience, sin and death entered the world, separating humanity from God. As a result, all people are sinners by nature and in need of redemption through Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:26–28; Genesis 3:1–24; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1–5
Salvation
We believe Jesus Christ is the one and only Savior of the world. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved eternally.
Romans 3:10, 23; Romans 5:18–19; Matthew 1:21; 1 John 4:14; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 10:9
The Church
We believe there is one Church, the body of Christ, consisting of believers from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation.
Each local congregation is an expression of the universal Church, united through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:4; 1 Corinthians 12:12–13; Revelation 5:9; Acts 2:42–47
Resurrection and Eternity
We believe in the resurrection of the dead. Believers will be raised to eternal life, and unbelievers to shame and everlasting contempt in hell.
Daniel 12:2; John 5:25–29; Revelation 21:1–22:5
Our Distinctive Beliefs
Within the historic evangelical Christian faith, we hold several additional biblical convictions that shape our teaching and practice.
Continuationist — The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
We believe all the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in Scripture remain available and active in His Church today.
Acts 1:8; Romans 12:6–8; 1 Corinthians 12–14; 1 Peter 4:10–11
Complementarian — God's Design for Men and Women
We believe God created men and women equally in His image, with equal value, dignity, and worth.
According to His purpose and design, He created men and women to fulfill distinct but complementary roles in marriage, the family, and the local church.
Genesis 1:26–28; Ephesians 5:22–6:4; 1 Timothy 3:1–7
Premillennial — The Return and Reign of Christ
We believe Jesus Christ will return to earth before His millennial reign, sit upon the throne of David, and rule over Israel and the entire cosmos forever.
Revelation 20:1–6; Luke 1:31–33; Isaiah 9:6–7
Pretribulational — The Rapture of the Church
We believe the Church will be delivered from the coming hour of trial upon the earth, being caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; 1 Corinthians 15:51–55; Revelation 3:10
